Missouri NOW 2012 State Conference

Missouri NOW is planning an all-day State Conference, open to the public, to be held at the Columbia Missouri Unitarian Universalist church on September 22, 2012. Our keynote speaker will be activist and NOW member Zoe Nicholson (see right) who fasted 37 days in support of the ERA at the Illinois State Capitol in 1982 and has fought ceaselessly for equality ever since.
We are also trying to engage a venue to show the film March On! (see http://www.marchonmovie.com/), the evening of September 21, 2012. This film features the stories of Zoe and several other activists who attended the 2009 March On Washington.

We are calling for workshop proposals for the event. Please contact Jamie Tomek (573-324-3668) or Claire Major (573-489-7863) if you would like to present a workshop at the conference.

Similarly, if you would like to set up a booth to represent your organization to Missouri's feminists, please contact Jamie Tomek (573-324-3668) or Claire Major (573-489-7863).

The Missouri NOW State Conference is open to the public. There will be a small registration fee to cover food and incidentals. Really, folks, you don't want to miss this event!

Hollywood and the fashion, cosmetics and diet industries work hard to make us believe that our bodies are unacceptable and need constant improvement.
Advertisements reduce us to body parts -- lips, legs, breasts -- airbrushed and touched up to meet impossible standards.
The media tell women and girls that cosmetic surgery is good for self-esteem.
Is it any wonder that 80% of U.S. women are dissatisfied with their appearance?
Together, we can fight back.
